Think. Create. But most importantly, stay alive.

Holding On To You

I’m taking over my body, back in control, no more shotty,
I bet a lot of me was lost, ‘t’s uncrossed and ‘i’s undotted,
I fought it a lot and it seems a lot like flesh is all I got,
Not anymore, flesh out the door, swat,
I must’ve forgot, you can’t trust me,
I’m open a moment and close when you show it,
Before you know it I’m lost at sea,
And now that I write and think about it,
And the story unfolds,
You should take my life, you should take my soul.

You are surrounding all my surroundings,
Sounding down the mountain range of my left-side brain,
You are surrounding all my surroundings,
Twisting the kaleidoscope behind both of my eyes.

And I’ll be holding on to you.

Remember the moment you know exactly where you’re going,
‘Cause the next moment, before you know it,
Time is slowing and it’s frozen still,
And the window sill looks really nice, right?
You think twice about your life, it probably happens at night, right?
Fight it, take the pain, ignite it,
Tie a noose around your mind loose enough to breathe fine and tie it,
To a tree, tell it, “You belong to me,
This ain’t a noose, this is a leash,
And I have some news for you, you must obey me.”

Entertain my faith.

Lean with it, rock with it,
When we gunna stop with it,
Lyrics that mean nothing, we were gifted with thought,
Is it time to move our feet to an introspective beat,
It ain’t the speakers that bump hearts, it’s our hearts that make the beat.

  1. This song means a lot of things. All of their songs are written around a certain purpose and around a certain idea.
You Should take my life, you should take my soul.
And ill be holding on to you.
    Entertain my faith.
This song is so beautiful! Tyler is speaking life through his words.

Have you ever felt like, maybe someone was in control of your body? I think that’s what Tyler talks about in this song, to be honest.

(I’m taking over my body, back in control, no more shotty,
I bet a lot of me was lost, ‘t’s uncrossed and ‘i’s undotted,
I fought it a lot and it seems a lot like flesh is all I got,
Not anymore, flesh out the door, swat,
    I must’ve forgot, you can’t trust me,
I’m open a moment and close when you show it,
Before you know it I’m lost at sea,
And now that I write and think about it,
    And the story unfolds,
You should take my life, you should take my soul.)
:In this first verse, I think he’s saying that he’s gotten his body back after a demon possessed it. But now that he is thinking about it and his life is clear to him, he decides that the demon should just take him.

(You are surrounding all my surroundings,
Sounding down the mountain range of my left-side brain,
You are surrounding all my surroundings,
Twisting the kaleidoscope behind both of my eyes.)
:In this verse, he is saying that this demon is surrounding his surroundings – the demon is everywhere, twisting kaleidoscopes behind his eyes, making things unclear for him.

(And I’ll be holding on to you.)
:In this verse, he is holding onto someone, maybe his friend or someone he loves, holding onto them, and trying to save himself.

(Remember the moment you know exactly where you’re going,
‘Cause the next moment, before you know it,
Time is slowing and it’s frozen still,
And the window sill looks really nice, right?
You think twice about your life, it probably happens at night, right?)
:In this verse, he is saying to remember the moment where you know what’s happening around you and you’re okay, because the next second everything stops and makes you realize that suicide might be good for you.

(Fight it, take the pain, ignite it,
Tie a noose around your mind loose enough to breathe fine and tie it,
To a tree, tell it, “You belong to me,
This ain’t a noose, this is a leash,
And I have some news for you, you must obey me.”)
:In this verse, he says that you must take the pain and fight it, and instead of killing yourself, kill the bad thoughts in your mind. And I will admit I am not quite sure how to interpret the rest.

    (Entertain my faith. (10x) )
:By saying this line, he is telling the demon that it has won, and that he needs someone to keep his faith alive so he doesn’t collapse under the mental failure.

(Lean with it, rock with it,
When we gunna stop with it,
Lyrics that mean nothing, we were gifted with thought,
Is it time to move our feet to an introspective beat,
It ain’t the speakers that bump hearts, it’s our hearts that make the beat.)
:In this verse I believe Tyler means that the lyrics don’t mean anything unless you think about them, and music isn’t what keeps us going, we must keep ourselves going.)

Hopefully this helped? It was my interpretation. So, to summarize, there is a demon trying to take his body over and kill him, but the demon is his own thoughts, and he is trying to stay okay.

    • He is not referring to a demon. He is talking to God. When he says “I’m taking over my body” he means that he has lost patience maintaining purity and he wants to use (or abuse) his body as he pleases. He then goes on to say “You must’ve forgot, you can’t trust me” showing that he is abusing God’s grace. “you should take me life, you should take my soul” is a reference to his guilt because of this. The chorus is also directed at God, saying that he has made clear to him that he needs to be holding on to God and trusting him to maintain purity etc. The bridge (entertain my faith) is a plea to God for him to give him a reason to have faith.

  3. i think this song is about finding your faith. i think the first verse is about your mind being sold to cheap entertainment, or contracts and now you’re just left with your physical body to give. evaluating what you really need, having the faith instead of being whishy washy,

the chorus about god being every where,

second verse obviously about not letting your mind be taken by thoughts of suicide or depression and again, securing your faith.

and lastly, not to be a mindless sheeple, think about the things around you and don’t let your mind be taken by the cheap entertainment.

  4. Ok well. First off, I have researched quite a bit for this theory so please feel free to give any criticism if I made a mistake anywhere. Wether it be, grammar, spelling, or facts in general. Alright so my theory on holding onto you changed a bit over time. First, I thought immediately of Jenna. All the lyrics made sense according to a lover or someone important in Tyler’s life. ” I’m taking over my body
Back in control, no more shotty. I bet a lot of me was lost “T”‘s uncrossed and “I”‘s undotted.” I took this quote meaning that he couldnt get control of himself and was dealing with a hard time. Also, the line “T’s uncrossed and I’s undotted” means that he is living a boring life and wants to experience something new. I came to this conclusion being that if you uncross the T and undot the i, You get l which is plain and boring, and it comes at to the same result meaning everyone around him is the same. To not sound like an idiot I read up on when Tyler and Jenna got married, March 18th 2015 after being engaged for about a year. I dont know exactly how long Tyler has known Jenna but if he knew her before the song released in, 2011. The Theory might make sense, But if he didnt know her before the song was written, this theory sounds ridiculous.

lol. well thank you if you read all that and if its wrong please be nice about it, The Clique is a family after all
