Think. Create. But most importantly, stay alive.

Glowing Eyes

We all are stranger creatures than when we all started out as kids,
Culture forbids,
We have romantic fantasies about what dying truly is,
To fall off the grid.

We live for the night’s decor,
It reveals what we dream of.

I know there’s someone at the door,
They called for help, of this I’m sure,
But do I want to say goodbye to all the glowing eyes,
I’m holding on to what I know,
And what I know, I must let go,
But I would rather play a song for the eyes to sing along.

We all know somebody who knows somebody who’s doing great,
I know some people who know people who are flying straight,
But I’ll kindly enter into rooms of depression,
While ceiling fans and idle hands will take my life again.

We live for the night’s decor,
It reveals what we dream of.

I know there’s someone at the door,
They called for help, of this I’m sure,
But do I want to say goodbye to all the glowing eyes,
I’m holding on to what I know,
And what I know, I must let go,
But I would rather play a song for the eyes to sing along.

This room is far too dark for us to stay around,
Redemption’s not that far and darkness is going down.
Make them stop.

I’m holding on to what I know,
And what I know, I must let go,
But I would rather play a song for the eyes to sing along.
Make them stop.

  1. I believe this song is about refusing to give up desires in order to do good.

The ‘glowing eyes’ are his desires and his pleasures. When he says, “I know there’s someone at the door, they call for help, of this I’m sure, but do I want to say goodbye to all the glowing eyes?”. He is deciding whether or not to surrender his desires or help someone in need. “I’m holding onto what I know, and what I know I must let go, but I would rather play a song for the eyes to sing along” basically says that he knows that feeding his desires and pleasures is bad, but he doesn’t care. I assume the song says he does this due to his depression, as he will “Kindly enter into rooms of depression” and that is his motive to seek pleasure rather than help others. He then begins to sing about redemption, and I assume the redemption is saying that he can make up for all the times he chose himself over other people. He finally begs his desires and pleasures to stop and leave him alone by the end of the song.
